Defrock Ssenyonjo, Clerics appeal

By Dismus Buregyeya in Masaka

THE West Buganda diocesan council meeting, led by Bishop Samuel Kamya
Keefa, has appealed to the House of Bishops to defrock Dr. Christopher
Ssenyonjo over his connection with the gay activities.

At a heated meeting which took place at Kako Cathedral in Masaka on
Tuesday, members denounced Ssenyonjo.

They said he should be banned from conducting any activities on behalf
of the Church of Uganda.

The motion was moved by the head of mission in the diocese. It was
supported by the entire house except Rev. Canon Paul Kayiira who said
it was not good to strip Bishop Ssenyonjo of his tittle.

He said he did not support Ssenyonjo "but it will be too early to
defrock him". The former chairperson of the diocesan Mothers Union,
Mrs. Christine Kambaza, stunned the meeting when she revealed that
Ssenyonjo was being backed by many Christians in the Church of Uganda
and West Buganda diocese.

Rev. Canon George Njogi told the meeting that Ssenyonjo used to preach
in favour of polygamy and traditional evil beliefs.
